The story is set in Venice and begins with the engagement of Clarice and Silvio, made possible because Clarice\u2019s former fianc\u00e9, Federico Rasponi, was believed to be dead. The celebration is interrupted when Truffaldino arrives announcing that Federico is alive. In reality, it is Beatrice Rasponi disguised as her brother, who has come to recover the dowry and to find her beloved Florindo.
