Well, that and much more is what in Sitges we call the<strong>\u00a0Little Festa Major<\/strong>. You know us&#8230;we love irony;)<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-html\"><\/div>\n<p>If you have the opportunity to visit Sitges on\u00a0<strong>September 23<sup>rd<\/sup>, the celebration of Santa Tecla<\/strong>, the town&#8217; s co-patron saint, get up extra early and you will receive an unforgettable reward. Starting at seven in the morning, with sleepy faces but very focused, about a thousand children are accompanied by their dragons and &#8216;cabezudos&#8217; and dance in a coordinated and heartfelt way, displaying the result of weeks of rehearsals. It is truly moving to watch, because if there is one thing the children have, it&#8217;s that they don&#8217;t fake it. And the excitement they feel is universal and contagious.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In this children&#8217;s sunrise celebration, the parade is multicolored, as boys and girls dress up as different characters:\u00a0<strong>Gegants\u00a0<\/strong>(giants),\u00a0<strong>Cabe\u00e7uts\u00a0<\/strong>(big-heads),<strong>\u00a0Dracs\u00a0<\/strong>(dragons),<strong>\u00a0\u00c0guiles\u00a0<\/strong>(eagles),<strong>\u00a0Diables\u00a0<\/strong>(devils),<strong>\u00a0Bastons\u00a0<\/strong>(stick dancers),<strong>\u00a0Pastorets\u00a0<\/strong>(shepherds),\u00a0<strong>Cercolets\u00a0<\/strong>(traditional dancers),\u00a0<strong>Gitanes\u00a0<\/strong>(gypsies),<strong>\u00a0Panderetes\u00a0<\/strong>(tambourine dancers),\u00a0<strong>Cintes\u00a0<\/strong>(ribbon dancers) and<strong>\u00a0Moixiganga\u00a0<\/strong>(ritual dances).<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Children who are now adults have participated in this sunrise celebration. This is the case of the former\u00a0<em>Cap de Colla<\/em>\u00a0of the\u00a0<strong>Diables Sitges-Colla Jove group<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>David Rosell<\/strong>, who recalls the\u00a0<em>&#8220;excitement and emotion shared&#8221;<\/em>\u00a0with other little boys and girls\u00a0<em>&#8220;for being the main stars of the festival, for imitating what the adults do at the Festa Major&#8217;s early morning festivities&#8221;<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It was precisely David&#8217;s father,\u00a0<strong>Jordi Rosell<\/strong>, who helped to institutionalize this\u00a0<a class=\"link-blau\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sitgesfestamajor.cat\/es\/sobre-la-fiesta\/los-actos\/la-matinal-infantil\/)\"><strong>children\u2019s sunrise event<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a>with a competition of dragons and devils that were created and then carried by the children themselves. Two years before, the festivities commission had created this early morning matinee with the intention of introducing the children to learning Sitges&#8217; dances and folklore. We&#8217;re talking about the year 1980, so imagine the many generations that have passed through this children&#8217;s early morning parade.
