The Confraria de Pescadors de Sitges (Sitges Fishermen’s Guild) is one of the oldest in Catalonia and one of the few that still practices artisanal, sustainable fishing with high quality produce. Today, very few fishermen’s guilds continue to maintain this type of fishing. It is an ancient profession that is currently going through a structurally difficult period, putting its continuity at risk.

Since mid-2019, the Confraria de Pescadors de Sitges (Sitges Fishermen’s Guild) has held authorisation from the Generalitat de Catalunya (Government of Catalonia) to organise activities related to Fishing Tourism at its headquarters in Port de Sitges – Aiguadolç. From there, this association of fishermen practices, protects and promotes traditional artisanal fishing. To give you an idea, the concept of artisanal fishing is linked to small boats and a fishing system based on manually operated nets. Fishermen refer to them as artes menors (small-scale fishing techniques): pesca amb nansa (basket trapping), trasmallo (trammel net fishing), cadup and other traditional methods.
