Stepping into the Cau Ferrat Museum, declared a museum of national interest by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Government of Catalonia), is like entering the treasure chamber of Modernisme. What was once the home and studio of Santiago Rusiñol is now an artistic celebration housing works by Rusiñol himself and Ramon Casas (two of the leading figures of Catalan and Spanish Modernisme), as well as pieces by El Greco, Picasso, Zuloaga, Utrillo and Pichot, among others.
The Cau Ferrat Museum is undoubtedly a small great museum. It is the jewel in the crown of Sitges. In addition to the paintings by the artists mentioned above, this temple of Modernisme contains more than 2,600 exhibited objects, as well as 750 examples of Modernista wrought ironwork.
