Festival de Jazz Antic de Sitges: Music in the Street

Sitges moves to many different rhythms. And in April, the beat is set by what is known as “traditional” or “early” jazz. This is one of the most important international festivals dedicated to the genre. And it happens here. Out in the streets. And the celebration is also embraced by the town’s vibrant social and cultural associations.

What makes this festival unique is its strong focus on the styles of jazz performed in the early decades of the 20th century: New Orleans jazz from the 1920s, together with jazz manouche and swing from the late 1930s. Another of its defining features is the Jazz Antic Sitges Parade, a lively musical procession in which groups of musicians gather and improvise while marching from Plaça de l’Ajuntament to Carrer de Jesús, accompanied by trombones, clarinets and many other instruments.
