Sand, sea, music and an incredible atmosphere
The dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE) efines a chiringuito as “a kiosk or outdoor drinks stand”. In Sitges, that definition falls rather short, because alongside the drinks, there is also excellent food. Our chiringuitos also offer music, activities, sun loungers where you can lose all sense of time (and space), as well as a unique atmosphere that invites you to stay for a very, very long time. So rather than simple beach bars, perhaps we should call them “beach legends” ;)
A pioneering chiringuito, and many more to discover
Here in Sitges, we are also home to one of the very first beach kiosks in Spain ever to be called a chiringuito. It received that name in 1943, and the word still appears on the façade of this establishment located along the Passeig Marítim, directly opposite Platja de la Fragata. Yet another reason why people say that in Sitges, almost everything started first…
Historical anecdotes and academic definitions aside, let’s get practical: alongside that original chiringuito, Sitges today boasts another 20 spread across the town’s different beaches. Plenty of fantastic places to choose from and enjoy. Wherever you are in town, all you need to do is head towards the sea and let your ears, your sense of smell or simply your intuition guide the way.
