A privileged location
What makes the Garraf observatory different? Well, there are two reasons that make it unique and turn it into one of the best sensory experiences for your trip or getaway to Sitges. On the one hand, its location, in the heart of the Parc del Garraf (Garraf Park), a spectacle in itself that guarantees a ‘dark sky’ with little light pollution. However, we are probably talking about the closest observatory to inhabited areas with these astronomical observation conditions—Sitges is just over 30 minutes away by car.
The Dome of the Garraf Astronomical Observatory
The dome is, without doubt, the jewel in the crown of the Observatori Astronòmic del Parc del Garraf (Garraf Park Astronomical Observatory). With its telescope, it is the place where visitors can see in situ, in real time, what is there and what is happening in the starry sky. First, on the ground floor, a digital planetarium provides a detailed, educational preview of what you will later see in the dome. These visits to the planetarium and then to the dome are the main activity organised by the Observatori (Observatory). You can see dates and prices on their website . And remember that places are limited, so don’t hesitate for long.
Do you want to celebrate your birthday or go on a trip?
Tailor-made sessions can also be arranged for groups—also available in English and German. And in this category are birthday celebrations, where you can see in the digital planetarium what the sky was like on the day you were born and then compare it with the sky on the day of your visit, and also the ‘Going on a trip?’ activity, where those interested can look ahead and discover what the sky will be like in the place where they are going on holiday, then comparing it with the one over the Parc del Garraf.
