Montserrat is undoubtedly the most emblematic mountain in Catalonia and one of the most unique in the world — and we’re not exaggerating. Its peculiar morphology and the ancient tradition that surrounds it is cause enough to talk about this magical mountain.

So many things to do

Located just 40 kilometres from Sitges, Montserrat is an absolutely (we want to stress that again) essential visit. Whether you are drawn by Christian faith, art (take a look at its museum), nature or hiking… up there you will find something for everyone. Just in case, wear comfortable shoes and decide for yourselves. Among the must-see places are Plaça de Santa Maria, the gateway to the monastery, basilica and museum; the basilica atrium — guaranteed to leave you open-mouthed — and, of course, the chance to see La Moreneta (the “Black Madonna”), who presides over the church. And if you can, listening to the boys of the Escolania de Montserrat choir sing is a deeply moving experience. They perform from Monday to Friday, at 13:00 and 18:45. On Sundays, they sing at 12:00 and also at 18:45.
