The Festival de Cinema LGTBIQ+ Endimaris (LGBTQ+ film festival) was born from the desire of Cineclub Sitges and Colors Sitges Link to give visibility to the reality of the LGBTQ+ community. A reality that is not just difficult, but has been made invisible for far too long. For this reason, through the films screened, it invites open debate and reflection. And it is done in the right place: Sitges, where this invisibility has no place.

Why is this film festival called ‘Endimaris’?

You have probably wondered about the reason for this festival’s name. Well, the organisers themselves explain it: “Endimari” is a Catalan expression, originating from the Garraf region, which means: “A useless person or thing, or one that gets in the way; piece of junk, useless utensil”. This expression perfectly describes how society in general has treated LGBTQ+ people throughout history. Following the queer community’s virtue of turning around concepts initially used pejoratively against them, the use of the word “Endimaris” in this regard is more than ideal.
