Centre Estudis del Mar (CEM)

Discovering the Mediterranean as a family

Travelling always means learning something new. And in the case of Sitges, coming here — even for a short getaway — is a wonderful opportunity to begin discovering, or to deepen your understanding of, the Mediterranean coastline and its marine life. That is precisely what the Centre d’Estudis del Mar offers, doing so in a fun, interactive way that involves the whole family.

CEM Activities

In addition to educational walking routes along the beach and through the Colls-Miralpeix area(particularly beautiful in autumn), the Centre d’Estudis del Mar also organises a wide range of educational and environmental awareness activities, including beach clean-ups in October, guided visits to discover “Nightlife in the ponds of the Terramar gardens” during spring, and ‘biomarathons’ dedicated to discovering the biodiversity of Sitges in June and July.

A remarkable building and a fascinating exhibition

Posidonia seagrass is the main focus of the audiovisual presentation shown at the CEM headquarters, together with the exhibition Espai Marí Costes del Garraf (“Marine Space of the Garraf Coast”). And the building itself, located right by the sea, deserves a special mention. We are talking about a Noucentista building — constructed in 1929 — and listed as Architectural Heritage by the Generalitat de Catalunya. This venue welcomes more than 12,000 visitors every year. There must be a reason for that, right? Come on, what are you waiting for? ;)
